Transference - Spoon's Latest

Spoon comes back with a follow-up to their break through to main stream record Ga Ga Ga with Transference. This is really what I expected from this band and the more I listen I can see the mindset.

Spoon’s greatness to me has always been there studio song writing. I love all the editing and effects around seemingly simple tunes.  With this one boasting as self produced it takes a step forward in my direction. I love the effects and loops or what seems like they must be looping. There are a couple songs on this one that really take rhythm to different places then you would expect and I’m a sucker for that.

All in all it’s one of those records that caters to It’s fans. I’m sure Spoon won’t reach stadium performances or even main stream radio plays from Transference but their just that much cooler for sticking to what they do best, and that is their own sound. There’s only one Spoon and for that reason alone I recommend this one.

Fn Dr. Pepper – Where’s my pop man?

Thursday, December 4th, 2008
Not his fault..

Not his fault..

Never make a promise you can’t keep. Apparently Dr. Pepper put on a promation boasting they’d give away a free soda to “everyone in America” if Guns and Roses released their long awaited “Chinese Democracy” album this year. Well, who would’ve thought after 17 years Axl’d ever finish the thing, but a deal’s a deal, so..

“When you go on the blogs and you read the responses from the fans, they associated Axl with this promotion…and blame him for the fact that they didn’t get their free soda,” Laurie Soriano, the band’s lawyer, told CNN. “We’ve gone public with the fact that we are not involved but are trying to clean up the mess.”

I guess the soft drink company wasn’t prepared to actually pay the pepper.. ah.. piper. Anyway the Internet onslaught brought down the doctor’s server.. Before everybody got their sodas.

“They said we’d have 24 hours to make good man”, said Brent Gibbons, one of the teenagers I asked about it, “I want my pop! Hell, who cares anyway.. F ‘em”

To be fair I learned Dr. Pepper extended it’s offer another 24 hours and put on extra phone operators to try and get people their soda, but that not good enough says Guns and Roses’s lawyer.

“The door to a lawsuit being filed is always open until the fans are taken care of and Dr. Pepper has done the right thing,” Soriano told CNN. GNR’s lawyers are asking for a full page apology.

Are fans really blaming Axl for Dr. Pepper’s technical mishap? I guess so, and the truth is Dr. Pepper never consulted with GNR about the offer and now, after the disaster, the band is taking the rap for it.
