A model of the Curiosity, NASA’s most advanced mobile robotic laboratory, which will examine one of the most intriguing areas on Mars, is seen prior to a news briefing, Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at NASA Headquarters in Washington. The design of the new California Academy of Sciences is incredible, especially the way the aquarium is integrated into the rainforest atrium. The lighting under the water is obviously blue tinged, so I had to do some correction to make people appear somewhat human in skin tones. I thought the selective focus created a more ominous feel to this otherwise touristy photograph.

*edit* We are the Hui Zheng lab at BCM and study Alzheimer’s Disease. Thanks everyone for your comments and words of encouragement! We had no idea this would spread like it has, but I guess some of these feelings are universal (and international!). This was all in good fun and took us only a few days to do the filming and editing. If you are caught in a bad project, best of luck and hope you can turn it around soon! Our submission for the Molecular and Human Genetics Retreat 2011 at Baylor College of Medicine. We decided to parody Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance with a science twist. Many thanks to On the Rocks for the dance moves, and tinyurl.com for the mouse video.

NASA’s Interstellar Boundary Explorer, or IBEX, spacecraft has made it possible for scientists to construct the first comprehensive sky map of our solar system and its location in the Milky Way galaxy. The new view will change the way researchers view and study the interaction between our galaxy and sun.
The First Church of Christ, Scientist (Christian Science Center in common reference) is the mother church and administrative headquarters of the Christian Science Church and is located in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts.

Designed in the 1960s by the firm of renowned architect I.M. Pei, the 14-acre Christian Science Plaza on Huntington Avenue has a reflecting pool and fountain that make it one of Boston’s most visually recognizable sites and a popular tourist attraction. (Wikipedia)

This is a picture looking up into the skylight in of the entry/atrium space at Ricardo Lerorreta’s Children’s Museum of Science in Fort Worth. The colors everywhere in the museum are great. Overall it’s an appropriate aesthetic for a children’s museum and the kids love it. So I’m quite happy with it. Also this is my first HDR (handheld 0,-2,+2).
